Images of Historic Houses: Westport Historical Society will unveil an exhibit of photographs of historic Westport homes taken in the 1930’s under the auspices of the federal Works Progress Administration.

The exhibit opens on Sunday, Nov.8, with a reception from 3 to 5pm and concludes on March 26. All of the homes were at least 100 years old when photographed, making the exhibit a rare peek into the town’s past. To show how the homes have changed, the WPA images will be displayed alongside photos taken today.

 

In all, the exhibit will include photographs of 131 dwellings. Some will be displayed in the Society’s Betty R. & Ralph Sheffer Gallery and the Mollie Donovan Gallery. The remainder will be set aside in folders for visitors to look through. In addition, there will be booklets of historical information on the homes and their owners. A Banner Day at the Westport Historical Society

A Banner Day at the Westport Historical SocietyOn Election Day, Nov. 3 2015, kids can cast their votes for fun, creativity and learning at the Westport Historical Society.

From 10am to 2pm, our day will be filled with activities. We’ll paint, sculpt and assemble folk art versions of Old Glory. We’ll explore the barn and root cellar and create our own imaginative “root people”. A treasure hunt is planned here at the Wheeler House as well. We’ll bake and enjoy Harvest Muffins for snack.

Elizabeth Devoll, our Education Director, will run the day’s program. Bring a bag lunch and prepare for an exciting patriotic day.

Cost: $55 non-members; $45 members.

Bundle up for an evening stroll, or wagon ride around the Park to see the trees and buildings all magically lit with over 80,000 lights!

Christmas carols will be playing throughout the park with various festive displays being lit for your pleasure.

Free wagon rides will be available throughout the park on half hour intervals between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Wagon rides will ONLY be available from the Fair Grounds at 110 Mill Creek Drive, Delta

People are encouraged to walk throughout the park to view the sites. Pedestrian parking is available from the Village Boat Launch which is located on the park entrance road.

Stop by Santa’s workshop (Cottage #1) for a visit and leave your letter for Santa. Please bring your own camera for a photo opportunity with Mr. & Mrs. Claus.

Hot Chocolate and Willard’s Donuts will be provided at Cottage #2.

Meals will be available each evening at the United Church starting at 4:00 p.m. Handicapped accessible parking will be available on Church Street.
