Singer, songwriter, guitarist, harmonicist and music educator Bill Johnson was born in Halifax, spent a few years in Ottawa and Calgary and now lives in Victoria B.C.. He grew up listening to his older brother’s record collection of Blues, Rock and Country artists and lists Hank Willilams, Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton and Chuck Berry as his major influences. Bill spent most of his teens studying guitar and played in a variety of different bands through the ’70’s and ’80’s but by the early ’90’s he began to focus exclusively on the Blues. Safe kids Week 2016

11

May 30 to June 5 – 2016 is the 20th Anniversary for Parachute’s Safe Kids Week.

Many Canadians are surprised to learn that preventable injuries kill more children every year than any other disease.

The good news is that prevention efforts are working – since 1996, Canada has enjoyed a decreasing trend in death and hospitalizations from preventable injuries overall.

But there is a still lot of work to do to keep children, and ourselves safe. Plan to take part in Parachute’s Safe Kids Week, happening May 30 – June 5, 2016 with a focus on the top injury issues that affect children on the road, at home and at play.

Check out the Parachute Safe Kids Week 2016 Resources and order your Community Toolkit today.

Safe Kids Week was originally a program of Parachute’s legacy organization Safe Kids Canada. The first annual Safe Kids Week took place in 1996.

Date :
May 30 to June 5

Location event:
Westport, ON

National Youth Week

9

National Youth Week is dedicated to the celebration of youth and their active participation in their community. Whether it is recreation, drama, sport, dance, civic engagement, art, volunteerism or leadership, every day young people are involved in meaningful activities during their discretionary time. Through activities, such as recreation and art, youth learn five basic life skills, which include social, moral, ethical, physical and cognition competence. Additionally, through their involvement, young people are meeting the seven developmental needs which they need in order to feel fully engaged in the world around them. These needs are: self-definition, physical activity, meaningful participation, mastery and achievement, positive interaction with adults and peers, structure and clear limits, and creative expression. Programs and services that are designed to meet meets the needs of youth and help them develop their basic skills are called Intentional Youth Development programs.
