What’s Cooking in Westport!

Cook together in the community kitchen on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month! What’s Cooking in Westport is on the 1st Tuesday each month (10am-1pm) at the Free Methodist Church! Learn new skills, take home food. Childcare is available.

Join us to try new foods and recipes, share a meal, bring extras home, have a good time, and meet new people in your community. We pick the recipes together, focusing on local, seasonal, budget-friendly ingredients. Some months we have a specific cultural theme, a guest speaker from the community, or a special event.

The group is facilitated by Registered Dietitian, Kate Earl, from Country Roads Community Health Centre. We discuss different nutrition and food safety topics each month and members share healthy eating tips with each other.

The program is FREE. There is no cost to participate. We also offer free childcare. Please ask us if you need help with travel costs. All we ask from you is that you participate in the cooking (and clean up!), come ready to have fun, and be open to trying new foods.

Honey and Rust at the Cove Inn

Made up of Jo Beattie and Cristy Williams, Honey & Rust are an Ottawa-based Roots Rock band that formed in September 2014.. Country and Rock runs in their blood, Jo from Saskatchewan and Cristy from small towns like Athens, Ontario. They aren’t afraid to cross genre lines to sing and play the music that makes them alive on stage and the audience on the edge of their seats.

Honey & Rust will take you on a story-laced, high-energy, and dynamic ride. Highly influenced by old-time country greats like Patsy Cline, rockin’ ladies like Janis Joplin, and the smooth, soulful sounds of Tracy Chapman, they draw upon music that moves the soul and engages the heart.

Honey & Rust released their self-titled debut album, Honey & Rust, in June 2016.

“The album rockets out of the gate like a racehorse on the appropriately named Hold Me Down, an energetic track that dares you to stop it. There’s this beautiful snarl in Beattie’s voice that makes you wonder what might have happened if Joplin did Bluegrass. On the haunting Delicate, the moments of tender smoothness and fragility are spiked with this growl, like silk wrapped around gravel.“ –Andre Gagne, Ottawa Life Magazine
