Joey Wright with Brownstone & Jenny Whiteley in concert!

Joey was one of the leading lights in the explosive bluegrass, old time and traditional country scene in Toronto in the late 90’s. Joey joined Jenny Whiteley’s band in 1999, and their first two albums (Jenny Whiteley & Hopetown) both won Juno awards for Best Roots Traditional Album.

In 2005 Joey joined Sarah Harmer’s band to record the album I’m A Mountain which earned him a gold record. In 2007 Joey collaborated with Jesse Zubot, Steve Dawson, Dan Whiteley and Joe Phillips to create his own album, Jalopy. Jalopy received a Juno nomination for Best Instrumental Album. The album Hatch followed in 2010 with 2017’s Country, Music just out.

The album explores new sounds combining pedal steel, beautiful brass, and angelic harmonies with creative textures, focused writing and inventive composition and includes Amy Millan and members of Montreal’s Stars, Evening Hymns, Christine Bougie , Aaron Comeau and Jenny Whiteley.

Blues on the Rideau : Samantha Martin & Delta Sugar

Ever since this band’s debut release “Send The Nightingale” came out in 2015 garnering 4 Maple Blues Award nominations and major national and international attention we’ve wanted to have them come to play BOTR. Samantha’s dynamic Blues/Soul/Gospel voice has been further enhanced in Delta Sugar by two great femaie co-singers – Sherie Marshall and Mwansa Mwansa with a full rhythm section behind them lead by guitarist Michael McCallum.

The band consists of 6 to 11 players depending on the venue. Their latest record “”Run To Me” released in April 2018 took an even larger leap forward involving a number of Canada’s best Roots/Blues/Soul artists including special guests Steve Marriner of MonkeyJunk fame and Suzie Vinnick.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday celebrated in Canada, the United States, some of the Caribbean islands, and Liberia. It began as a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year. Similarly named festival holidays occur in Germany and Japan. Thanksgiving is celebrated on the second Monday of October in Canada and on the fourth Thursday of November in the United States, and around the same part of the year in other places.

What do people do?

Many people have a day off work on the second Monday of October. They often use the three-day Thanksgiving weekend to visit family or friends who live far away, or to receive them in their own homes. Many people also prepare a special meal to eat at some point during the long weekend. Traditionally, this included roast turkey and seasonal produce, such as pumpkin, corn ears and pecan nuts. Now, the meal may consist of other foods, particularly if the family is of non-European descent.
