A group of local musicians have joined forces with the Township of Beckwith to host a Country Music Festival at Beckwith Park this summer! This festival will be held on August 2nd – 4th, 2019, featuring local Ottawa Valley Country Musicians!

Come to The Cove in July! 

We just finished Canada Day Weekend at The Cove in the village of Westport and surrounding area!

The Fredenburgh House.

There is no one sadder than all of us at The Cove to see the demise due to a fire in January and subsequent of the beautiful Fredenburgh House , which we have  lived in and enjoyed for almost 35 years. You would have look at the structure and say it doesn’t really look that damaged by the fire and you would be right. The experts tell us that more fire damage is done by water and smoke than by fire. Thousands of litres of water were pumped into the attic of the house to prevent the fire from spreading last January. The Fire Department did an admirable job under very difficult conditions. This water has lodged in the walls, ceiling and floors for months and, with warmer weather, is now resulting in mold and would have to be removed back to the frame if we were to restore the house. Estimators have put the cost in the millions and that is prohibitive to us financially. We hope you will understand and feel our pain as well. Thanks, and rest assured that, going into the future, we will make the Inn stronger and more appealing than it’s ever been.

The weekly summer schedule is now here! There is music every week from Wednesday to Sunday! Some new artists, some returns and some completely out there! We had Manacanabo all lined up from Cuba on Jul.27 but they were denied their travel visas because of complications with immigration in Havana. We were so looking forward to them. For 45 years Morgan Davis has been on the road travelling across Canada, the United States and Europe. His performances draw from a rich tradition of country blues, as well as his own contemporary songs infused with wit and a large dose of humour.

Originally from Detroit, Davis grew up listening to a prolific mix of rhythm and blues. The music of Jimmy Reed, Ike and Tina Turner, Chuck Berry and Fats Domino was in the air. He later moved to California with his family, and then in 1968 left for Canada.

While living in Rochdale College, Toronto’s mecca for the subculture of the late 1960’s, he immersed himself in the study of Delta Blues, especially the music of Robert Johnson. Toronto’s music scene in the early 1970’s was the perfect place for Davis to cut his teeth as a journeyman, having the opportunity to see and play with many legendary performers. Bukka White, Johnny Shines, Sunnyland Slim, Snooky Pryor, Hubert Sumlin, and John Hammond were encouraging supporters.

Calling all BBQ Enthusiasts to join us Saturday, July 20th, 2019 at the Scheuermann Vineyard and Winery in beautiful Westport, Ontario for the first annual Westport Backyard BBQ Cook-off. Teams will compete in pork ribs and chicken, as well as producing pork ribs for the public to try and vote on for the people’s choice award. A traditional Irish Music from Belfast, Ireland.

FÁNAID…

… is a fiddle player, DJ and sound artist from Belfast, where he has been an active member of the traditional music scene for over 20 years. His fiddle playing draws inspiration from the music of Donegal where he holidayed as child.

He is much in demand as a session musician and has been teaching fiddle classes for ‘Belfast Trad’ for over 15 years. His compositions, released under the pseudonym Jan Jeffer, have featured on RTE Lyric FM, NTS Radio and at many of Ireland’s top music festivals, including the Sonorities Festival of Contemporary Music, the Cathedral Quarter Arts festival and Electric Picnic amongst others.

Fióna Ní Mhearáin…

… is a flute player, singer and fluent Irish speaker from Belfast who began learning music at tin whistle classes as a child hosted by the outstanding Belfast flute player Davy Maguire. This planted the seed for a love of traditional Irish flute playing and particularly the Belfast and Northern flute styles.

Paddy Morgan…

…from County Down has developed a unique style of accompaniment that seeks to remain faithful to tradition while exploring new techniques for the guitar in Irish music drawn from a diverse background. Over the years he has collaborated with a host of artists in various genres from flamenco troops (Al Andalus, K Passa Wipers) to jazzers (The Bog Frogs) and legends of Irish tradition such as fiddle masters Ben Lennon & John Carty and award winning singers Len Graham & Rosie Stewart.
