Join us on Wednesday September 27th, 2023 from 7-10:30pm for Hollywood Actor/Comedian Tom Green. $90 + HST gets you dinner and the show.

After living in the USA for decades, Tom Green recently relocated to Canada, where he starred in Amazon Prime’s “LOL: Last One Laughing Canada.” He cracked up many of Canada’s funniest comedians, including K. Trevor Wilson, Dave Foley, Colin Mochrie and special guest P.K. Subban.

Tom’s program “The Tom Green Show,” which began on Ottawa cable TV and moved to MTV, influenced the rise of shock comedy shows like “Jackass.”

Tom’s appeared in several films, including “Charlie’s Angels,” “Road Trip,” “Stealing Harvard,” “Shred” and “Freddy Got Fingered,” which he wrote and directed.

Tom’s TV appearances include hosting “Saturday Night Live.” He is among the few comedians to guest-host for David Letterman on “Late Show with David Letterman.”

The eccentric, funny man was also a contestant on “Celebrity Big Brother,” in which, despite being Canadian, he was voted America’s favourite house guest. He competed on “The Celebrity Apprentice” with former U.S. president Donald Trump.

In 2006 Green, a pioneer in independent web-casting, was producing a talk show from his Los Angeles home. Fellow comedian Joe Rogan named Green’s show as an influence on his podcast, “The Joe Rogan Experience.” Numerous podcasters and other online content creators have cited Green as a pioneer in the medium.

Tom’s battle with testicular cancer was chronicled in the short film “The “Tom Green Cancer Special.” The topic was also covered in his 2004 autobiography “Hollywood Causes Cancer: The Tom Green Story.”

Westporch Fest is back!

Valentine’s Day is an opportunity for people in Canada to tell somebody that they love them in a romantic way. It falls on February 14, the name day of two saints, St Valentine of Rome and St Valentine of Terni. In pre-Christian times, the middle of February was a time of pagan fertility festivals in Europe and allegedly the time when birds chose a mate.

What Do People Do?

Many people send letters, cards, presents and gifts to the person with whom they have or want to have a romantic relationship. Valentine’s Day cards are often red or pink and decorated with images of hearts, red roses, teddy bears, presents or happy couples kissing or embracing. They may be in brightly colored, perhaps pink or red, envelopes.

Valentine’s Day can also be an occasion for a more general celebration of love and appreciation of people who are personally important to an individual. School children may help decorate their classrooms with hearts and spring birds and make cards or presents for their parents. Stores may also sell Valentine’s Day themed cakes, cookies or candy. Teenagers and young adults may hold Valentine’s Day parties or dances on or near February 14.

Capture the beauty and excitement of Westport

The annual WAC Photo Contest is open to all amateur photographers. We are hoping for photographs that celebrate the beauty of Westport and the surrounding area of North Crosby. Amateur photographers are encouraged to capture those untamed moments in nature, summer sunsets, family gatherings, winter sports and everything else in between, just as long as it happens in the Westport area.

Prizes

1st: $100

2nd: $75

Youth: $50

Contest is open for photos taken between 1 April to 31 December 2021. Open to all amateur photographers residing or visiting the Westport area. Limited to 5 entries per person. Entries can be submitted to: info @ westportartscouncil.com, subject line “photo contest 2021 entry”. Winners announced by March 15, 2022.

Cook together in the community kitchen on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month! What’s Cooking in Westport is on the 1st Tuesday each month (10am-1pm) at the Free Methodist Church! Learn new skills, take home food. Childcare is available.

Join us to try new foods and recipes, share a meal, bring extras home, have a good time, and meet new people in your community. We pick the recipes together, focusing on local, seasonal, budget-friendly ingredients. Some months we have a specific cultural theme, a guest speaker from the community, or a special event.

The group is facilitated by Registered Dietitian, Kate Earl, from Country Roads Community Health Centre. We discuss different nutrition and food safety topics each month and members share healthy eating tips with each other.

The program is FREE. There is no cost to participate. We also offer free childcare. Please ask us if you need help with travel costs. All we ask from you is that you participate in the cooking (and clean up!), come ready to have fun, and be open to trying new foods.

Shawn McCullough is a Master guitar player/singer/alternative lyricist/showman/songwriter. He has played and toured with Canadian Country star Jason McCoy (The Roadhammers) and has been a part of Telecaster supergroup The Telebastards featuring Steve Piticco, Country Pickin’ Mayhem Band with 2 x 7 time CCMA Guitarists of the Year, Wendell Ferguson and Steve Piticco, as well as a member of DoubleBack with Wade Foster and John Wilberforce. He is highly in demand as a session musician and sideman for his incredible skill, wit and stage presence. He has a solo record to his name “This is Me” and is currently performing with rising CMAO and CCMA nominated Country star Brea Lawrenson!  His latest accomplishments are a series of singles released on Apple Music and Spotify getting lots of airplay on Country Music Radio. Rideau Lakes yoga specializes in all levels of classes with a slow exploration of movements. Yoga for every body invites you to practice in a way that suits your needs. Move into a greater sense of ease. Morning classes (to gently wake up, strengthen your gardeners back, and connect with community) are offered on Mondays & Thursdays at 9:30 – 11am. Evening classes (to gently unwind, release the activity of the day, and connect with community)  are offered on Wednesdays at 5:30 – 7pm.
