Cove Monthly Musical Residency – Jon McLurg

Jon McLurgreturns to The Cove Inn as part of the Cove Monthly Musical Residency – most Mondays in June except June 17! Showtime is 5-8pm.

Jon McLurg is a singer-songwriter based in Kingston, Ontario. Jon has been a staple of the local folk music scene for more than 15 years as a solo performer and member of Turpin’s Trail, Crooked Wood, and The Goodnight Irenes. He has recorded four solo albums of original material, including his most recent album, North Star, released in 2020.

An accomplished and prolific songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, this quietly confident artist was noticed on the international scene in 2010 when he was chosen as one of only 10 performers for the songwriter showcase at The New Jersey Folk Festival. That same year, he also won American Songwriter Magazine’s lyric contest in their July/August 2010 issue with Someone Thinks of You from The Auctioneer.

Jon is also a masterful interpreter of song, with a dizzying mental catalogue of 100s of cover songs spanning traditional and contemporary folk, classic country, bluegrass, Celtic and much more. A Jon McLurg performance can touch on dozens of legendary songwriters such as Townes van Zandt, Elizabeth Cotten, Woody Guthrie, Carter Family, Lead Belly, Mississippi John Hurt, John Prine, and Hank Williams, along with songs and melodies from time immemorial.

Long Sault Trio at the Cove Inn

Linda Grenier, Dave Tilston and Victor Maltby have been making music as Long Sault Trio for many years now. The trio took its name from the Long Sault Creek near McDonald’s Corners. Like the creek, their music meanders through Folk with hints of Blues, Jazz and Trad music. With a multi-generational appeal, they have played festivals (Blue Skies Music Festival, Festival of Small Halls,  Stewart Park Festival) and venues throughout the region and beyond. As performing songwriters, their three-part harmonies and blend of acoustic instruments (violin, saxophone, mandolin and guitar) come together in a modern roots styling.

$10 suggested music cover per person.

Date :
July 1, 2024 from 5 to 8pm

Event location :
2 Bedford Street
Westport, Ontario K0G 1X0

Taichi courses at the Canadian Tai Chi Academy

The Canadian Tai Chi Academy teaches 108-move Tai Chi, a style developed by Master Moy Lin-Shin (1931-1998). He modified the traditional Yang Style 108-move Tai Chi set to maximize the health benefits for faster health improvement, as he realized that in a modern society, an exercise that was good for health was more important than a martial art for fighting.

The Canadian Tai Chi Academy runs classes across Canada.

Date
Fridays 11am to noon

North Crosby Community Centre – Westport
