Worlds Collide Africa with Music by Ben Vandergaast at the Cove Inn!

“Pamoja tunaweza” means ‘together we can’ in Swahili. We believe that together we can dream that when worlds collide, anything is possible. Our mission is to empower vulnerable and at risk youth to reach their full potential as productive, self sustaining, responsible members of the community.

We also want to provide a safe and healthy environment for our kids to learn and grow, to provide inspiring community role models, to offer life enhancing programs and character development experiences and to offer hope and opportunity. Local schools, residents and business owners have donated their time and efforts by going to Pumoja Tunaweza Boys & Girls Club to help them succeed.

Ben Vandergaast is a full-time keyboardist/multi-instrumentalist. With years of experience in a variety of genres, an exceptional ear, touring experience, and mesmerizing piano skills, he is ready to make your next show or tour unforgettable. Ben’s regular performance schedule mainly consists of his solo “Piano Classics” shows. In these shows, he sings and plays audience requests, drawing from a repertoire of hundreds of hits.

THE HOGTOWN ALLSTARS

When we say this band is full of Allstars we ain’t kiddin’! 5 members from Canada’s legendary Downchild Blues Band – Chuck Jackson (vocals), Michael Fonfara (keyboards), Pat Carey (sax), Gary Kendall (bass) & Mike Fitzpatrick (drums) plus Teddy Leonard on guitar (formerly with Fathead). Both of these bands have received multiple Juno Awards over the years and all of members have either won or been nominated for an MBA in their respective instrument categories. Together they represent almost 300 years of Blues-playing experience and it shows. Led by dynamic singer/showman/front man Chuck Jackson these guys mix it up with their unique renditions of old Blues/Soul and R&B classics along with original songs. Cook together in the community kitchen on the first Tuesday of every month! Learn new skills, take home food. Childcare is available.

Join us for What’s Cooking in Westport. If you’re interested in donating to our Westport Food Sharing Shelf, check out the list of ideas coming from this month’s recipes!

Last month, in addition to making chili and cornbread from scratch, we’ve learn how to turn the chili into a salad, with lettuce, tomato, onion, guacamole, and chipotle ranch dressing. For dessert, we’ve worked on how to do an apple taste test, with a banana nut dip!
