Memories from
Hungary |
The George
family |
|
Greetings from Hungary! We are
long-time visitors to Westport, starting when I was a child
growing up in Rochester NY. Every summer we would travel to
Loon Lake to my grandparents' and aunt and uncle's cottage
there. Westport is just a short drive and was always a nice
visit. Ice cream was the main goal for us as kids. Over the
past 10+ years with my wife and 2 daughters, we have enjoyed
the unique shopping experience, good meals at local
restaurants, boat-watching, and walks thru town - with ice
cream of course! Although we now moved to Europe, each summer
we still try to visit the cottage and spend time in Westport
because it is a special place to make memories. Thanks for
making your Cottage Country town a destination worth visiting. |

Westport is a wonderful
community. I have had the pleasure of visiting
it in the 60's. Love all the water around the town. |

Heart of the
Rideau |
by Leslie Attwood |
We have been cottaging on Bob's
Lake since 1979, and LOVE to visit Westport. I have been
singing your praises to the people at work for years, and some
of them made the trip from Durham Region, and they were very
glad they did. My whole family (and extended family) have had
the pleasure of visiting your town, and once it gets into your
blood, you are hooked.
I look forward to going the the cottage each year just to make
the trip to town to do a little shopping.
I find the people of Westport to be so friendly and
hospitable, and you are always greeted with a smile at any
establishment you may enter.
Way to go Westport! You are the "Heart of the Rideau" for
sure. |

swimming, skiing........going into town for rum raison ice
cream! And it never gets old browsing the great shops! There
will never be any other place just like Westport! |

Family Reunions |
|
|
I just want to
say that Westport was the GREATEST. We started last year
having our family reunions there and we stay at Michael's
cottage. We had a great time shopping in the stores and buying
fresh baked goods and spending time getting ice cream and
eating at Ducks. The people are friendly and very helpful.
Our families still talks about Westport and cant wait to go
back this summer. We are ALL VERY EXCITED to spend time with
the very friendly mosquitoes. |

Memories are Priceless! |

treasure my entire life. |

A Magical Small Town |
by John Serfass |
| I
first visited Westport coming north from eastern Pennsylvania
in the early 60's with my parents and brother on our way to
Bob's Lake. It was the last place to stock up with supplies on
the way to our campground. My wife and I have since brought
our three children here as they were growing up. This summer
we were back, first time without any kids along, and the magic
is still there. The visitor welcome center is a great addition
and the person working there could not have been more friendly
or helpful. Coming from the States where we have fast food on
every corner and commercialism has taken over, it is still a
wonderful change to spend time in Westport where the pace is
less hectic and shops still understand the importance of good
service. Lunch out back on the patio at The Cove and an ice
cream cone while walking out to look at the boats tied up at
the docks...................it doesn't get any better than
this! John from New Hampshire |

must say that Westport Ontario is probably the most relaxing
gorgeous place I have ever been to in my life. If you ever get
a chance to visit, I would highly suggest vacationing there!!! |

Hello,
Just wanted to tell you how helpful your website was in
helping me gather information for my families visit to the
Westport area in July 2005. I have been coming to the area
since I was born, and am now introducing my extended family to
the beauty of Westport and surrounding areas. Jim Wentworth,

| A friend of mine
told me about your lovely city and I thought I'd have a look.
I will be passing through on Sept. 27th and I'm looking
forward to experiencing its charm. Since it lies on the Rideau
canal system I assume that one would be able to sail to
Montreal? Thank you, Wolf |
| Shopping |
by Sonia Pavone |
| Just wanted to add
to these stories the shopping. My self and a douple of
girlfriends have been avid shoppers of Westport. We go down at
least 3 times a year to shope most of the money is spent at
the Village Green however I have some real gems even at the
IDA. We have over the years even down "Girls" weekends were we
stayed at the Cove and went to the SPA. It was a blast,
relaxing, and everyhting form the rooms, to the food was very
good. I would defiantely recommend this little town for
shopping and relaxing!!!! Thanks Westport!!! |
| Memories
of westport |
by jim gast |
| back in 1967 my
drummer in the band and i sat in a nightclub at 2;00 a:m after
we had just finished a gig. being avid fishermen we were
talking and said: "lets go to canada!" 1 week later, with
about 80 bucks apiece in our pockets, we took off from
southeastern pennsylvania with a tent, 2 sleeping bags and
just enough food so we wouldnt starve till we got back. we had
NO clue where we were going but rt 81 headed north, so thats
the way we went. we hit the border early in the morning and
stopped at the tourist bureau and asked them where we should
go. the guy looked at us a little weird, and said, here's some
brochures! well, we walked out to the car and ripped open the
pack of stuff and a map. i said to dave.......let's go here!
it looked like a lot of lakes and certainly their should be
fish in there! so up highway 15 we went and came to crosby. we
flipped a coin whether we should make a left to go to westport
or continue up 15. luckly, westport won. we drove a little
ways and we came upon a sight i will never forget the big
rideau! god, it was beautiful! i drove a little faster at that
point to get there and saw a sign that said pop 400 and
something and came to a little shack in westport that said
chamber of commerce i believe or something pertaining to
tourism. we stopped, and ran up to the building and there was
a nice young girl there and she gave us some brochures for
campgrounds. i looked them over and saw don searscampground at
.buck lake.....it said that lake had ALL kinds of different
fish in it so thats were we went........the rest is history. i
arrived at your town as a young man and 35 years later we're
still coming back. i've raised all 5 kids to know and love the
westport area and now the grandkids too! till the day i leave
this earth this will always be my second home and a place to
get away from it all...... of course, a lot of old friends
have left this us now and i miss not seeing good old vince
brady down at mosquito lake, (thats where we wound up after
don sears died) i miss not seeing murph at his chair in the
barbershop, the marina across from the IGA grocery store, the
neatest little gift shop and tackle store beside it, and now
bennetts 5 and 10 is gone and so's all the fireworks stores on
main st. now the town seems a lot busier, but overall, you
just cant beat what you folks have to offer and i'll be up at
vinces campground again come july 30. my numbers 1 and 3 sons
will be coming and the grandkids too... i'll get to see my
buddies down at browns marina at chaffey's locks (dave and
scott) and i'll stop in to get my license at murph's
barbershop as usual...and then ............ WAHOOOOO!
RELAXATION AND FISHING! see ya soon!..........jim gast |

| I took a day trip
to Canada in early spring and happened to stop in Westport. It
truly is a jewel. I have returned back several times and
enjoyed every visit . I am thinking real hard on buying a
summer home in your lovely community. You appear to be the
"Lake Placid" of Canada without all of the commotion . Looking
forward to my next visit. |
| We
wouldn't miss it! |
by Mike and Carol Counsil |
| We fish at Wolfe
Lake every year and wouldn't miss it for anything! The water's
as pure as it gets, the walleyes are the best anywhere, and
the scenery is fantastic. |
