See us from the inside

Walk right in and say hello. The doors will be open all over Westport and Rideau Lakes on Saturday, Sept. 19.

You may want to make a list and tick off the “doors” as you go. You might also want to begin right at 10 a.m. when they open, because there are lots of them.

Doors Open, part of a province-wide heritage event, will include, in this area, doors in Chaffey’s Lock, Delta, Elgin, Lombardy, Morton, Newboro, Portland, and Westport. For a more detailed list, go to www.doorsopenontario.ca and look for Rideau Lakes-Westport. Or look for a Doors Open publication at local libraries and municipal offices.

Come and see this beautiful area – from the inside. You’ll be warmly welcomed.

Great Music, Mate!

Transport yourself to Australia on Friday, Sept. 25. It’s easy. You only have to go to the Newboro Community Hall.

Glenn Foster will give an “Australian Concert” in aid of Newboro’s United Church’s “Save Our Sanctuary” fund. The concert begins at 7 p.m. Freewill donations will be greatly appreciated.

Local Terry Fox Run

If you care about a cure for Cancer; if you remember Terry Fox, or if you enjoy the challenge of activity, please join the Annual Terry Fox Run in this area on Sunday, Sept. 13. Registration goes from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at the Elgin Lions Hall, and the run begins at 1 p.m. There will be refreshments.

Nothing like home made pie

Here’s something you make your tummy rumble:

Home-cooked roast pork, buffet-style.

Home made pie.

Hot, delicious, mouth-watering… as only our local church women can make it.

You can enjoy all this wonderful food on Wednesday, Sept. 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Westport Legion. It’s hosted by St. Paul’s-Westport Anglican Church Women, and these are the people you should call for tickets. One such person is Betty McInnis, 273-3248.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children. Preschoolers are invited free.
